Growing up in the church I learned a lot of catchy old hymns. I have a fondness for them to this day. I busted this one out one afternoon after learning the chord pattern. The whole film and recording were completed in about an hour and a half. The recording is a combination of my iPhone mic and my studio set up all recorded in mono.
I surrender all is a church hymn written by American art teacher and musician Judson W. Van DeVenter. The guy claims that when he finally ‘surrendered’ fully to God he discovered a talent for hymn writing that he didn’t know he had. It makes me wish sometimes the universe would show me some hidden talent that I have underneath my blanket of artistic mediocrity, but being over 55 years old makes me think it’s probably too late.
But… Stranger things have happened
